Who We Are

St. Joseph Home of Cincinnati cares for the whole person, not just a resident's medical diagnosis.

St. Joseph Home is an ICF/MR, or Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded, licensed by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. In more practical terms, we're a home much like your own, but with the equipment and skilled professionals needed to care for people with severe to profound disabilities.

Together, our residents, respite guests, families staff and volunteers form a community of mutually inspired individuals.

St. Joseph Home has served the unmet needs of society since 1873. The Home, a nonprofit ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, was originally incorporated as Saint Joseph Infant and Maternity Home. Our history has always centered around compassionate care.

Our Mission

St. Joseph Home creates a home for children and adults who have severe/profound developmental disabilities.  The Home, a non-profit ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, offers a creative, loving environment for those in the residential and respite programs.  Attention to the individual’s medical, social, educational and spiritual development reveals the uniqueness of each person.  Compassionate care and respect for the dignity of life are the hallmarks of St. Joseph Home.

Our mission is to care for our residents' medical needs, but also to give attention to their social, educational, habilitative, and spiritual development. St. Joseph Home residents attend school or workshop, and participate in a variety of activities and community outings and programs.

A family's decision to place their child at St. Joseph Home is always a difficult one, and often comes after the child grows too heavy or large for a family to lift and take care of by themselves. Some families take advantage of our respite center services prior to placing their child permanently with St. Joseph Home, so they gain knowledge of the services provided and trust in the loving care their child receives.

St. Joseph Home, located in Sharonville, is the only agency in Hamilton County serving non-ambulatory, non-verbal and medically fragile infants, children and adults. Our Harold C. Schott Respite Center provides short-term care for up to eight children or young adults at a time.

Our Campus

St. Joseph Home of Cincinnati is located in a residential area of Sharonville, north of Cincinnati. Our campus is a 17-building complex nestled amid 13 acres of rolling hills and wooded terrain. The facilities include 6 residential cottages and a respite cottage, an indoor therapy pool, a playground with specially adapted equipment for wheelchairs, and a chapel.
